Description: This data set was developed as part of the Florida Forever Conservation Needs Assessment. Floodplains are often described in terms of statistical frequency of flooding, i.e. 10-year floodplain or 100-year floodplain. The boundary of the 100-year flood is commonly used in floodplain mitigation programs to identify areas where the risk of flooding is significant, e.g. FEMA data. We worked closely with members of the Florida Forever Technical Advisory Group who recommended that the natural floodplain should be represented by natural or semi-natural areas within the 100-year floodplain as identified by FEMA.For a complete description please refer to: the Florida Forever Conservation Needs Assessment Technical Report. Florida Natural Areas Inventory. Tallahassee, Florida (available online at www.fnai.org). Florida Forever Measure C4: The number of acres acquired that protect natural floodplain functions.
